Direct Messages (DMs) are a powerful way to stay connected with your fans. Strong communication builds lasting relationships, and with Fansly’s messaging tools, it's easy to keep the conversation going.
Whether you're replying one-on-one, sending out a mass update, or automating welcome messages, our platform allows you to communicate your way.
DM Threads: Keep It Personal
Fansly DMs work a lot like messaging in apps you're already used to! To find your message thread with a fan, click the envelope icon on their profile or search for them in your Messages.
From the bottom of the thread, you can send media bundles, locked text, voice notes recorded just for that user, and even GIFs from GIPHY. (1)
Need to manage the conversation? Click the three-dot menu (2) at the top right of the chat for options to:
Hide or mute the conversation
Add the user to a List
View how much they've contributed to your earnings
Add a private note (perfect for remembering things like their nickname, favorite content, or pronouns)
These built-in tools help keep conversations smooth, personal, and tailored to the way you want to manage your community.
DM Permissions: Your Inbox, Your Rules
You’re in control of who can message you and when. Whether you want to keep things open for all fans or offer messaging as a special perk, you can tailor access to fit your boundaries and community style. You can review and update your settings here.
Let's take a look at an example:
In this case, the user can only message if they are:
Subscribed
orA follower who tips $1 for each message
orA follower who has spent $50 on PPV content
If someone tries to message you but doesn’t meet any of your permissions, they’ll see the available options to unlock messaging:
DM Permissions are a great way to encourage engagement from your most supportive fans while keeping your inbox manageable and aligned with your boundaries.

Mass Messages: Engage with Ease
Want to reach a large group all at once? Mass Messages allow you to send updates, content, or special announcements to multiple users without having to message them individually.
You can tailor who receives each message (e.g., current subscribers, expired subscribers, followers, or specific Lists) and even schedule your messages to go out at the perfect time.
It’s a flexible tool for staying consistent with your communication and boosting engagement at scale.

Automated Messages: Always Connected
Automated messages let you stay connected with fans at all times. These messages are triggered by specific actions (like when a fan subscribes or follows you) and are a great way to welcome someone, promote custom menus, or keep communication flowing without constant manual effort.
Want to offer custom content requests through tips? You can even enable Keywords and set a Minimum Tip Amount on your New Tip trigger to send your fans a menu or prompt when they send a qualifying tip.

Message FAQs
Check out the questions below that our creators ask the most!
Why are fans saying they can’t message me?
If a fan says they can’t message you, they might be running into one of your privacy or DM permission settings. For example, they may not be subscribed, haven’t tipped, or are located in a region you’ve blocked.
Take a quick look at your Privacy Settings and DM Permissions to review who’s currently allowed to DM you.
How can I help fans troubleshoot messaging issues?
If a fan is having trouble sending you a message, here are a few things they can check:
Make sure they have verified their email.
Confirm they’ve met any requirements you’ve set, like tipping or subscribing.
Try common fixes like refreshing the page, updating their browser, or clearing cache/cookies.
If everything looks good on their end and they still can’t message you, they can reach out to Fansly Support for extra help.
Are there Read Receipts?
Yes! One grey check mark means the message was sent, two grey check marks mean the message was delivered, and two blue check marks mean the message was read.
By default, these are enabled for every Fansly user. If you’d like to disable Read Receipts on your entire account, toggle the option on your Privacy Page.
If you want to disable Read Receipts for specific users, go to your DM, click the three white dots, and select Disable Read Receipts.
Can fans tell if it’s a mass or automated message?
Nope! Fans see all messages the same way, whether it's sent manually, scheduled, or triggered automatically. There’s no tag or label on their end.
Just a heads-up: if you're sending Vault content through messages, any Likes that media has picked up in other places (like your feed or other DMs) won’t show in the thread.
How do I prevent users from sending me images I don't want to see?
From your Privacy Settings, you can choose to blur all media in DMs. This makes DM media blurred by default, and you can choose when to view it!
This only affects your messages, not the images you see on your timeline/suggestions.
How can I see what I’ve shared with fans?
Each DM thread includes galleries that organize all media shared in that conversation. To access it, click the three white dots in the top-right corner of the thread and choose from these options:
Show My Media – View all media you’ve sent that’s still visible in the thread.
Show My Unsent Media – See any media you previously sent but later deleted.**
Show Media From [Fan’s Name] – Browse all media your fan has sent to you.
This makes it easy to review what’s been shared on both sides of the conversation!
🎉 We're excited to announce the addition of "Show My Unsent Media"! This gallery will start tracking your deleted media as of 20 August 2025.
Media deleted before that date will not appear in this gallery.
